Seminar Abstract
A rock-solid Active Directory® infrastructure is pivotal to the success of any
business critical systems based on Windows® 2000 or Windows® Server 2003. The infrastructure consists of a number of critical components: the Active Directory® database, domain controllers, global catalogs,
FSMO roles, replication, SYSVOL, system services and DNS. The success of any deployment
requires rapid and successful recovery from any type of infrastructure component failure.
This seminar will explain the role and dependencies of each component, examine the impact of failure,
and show you the steps for recovery and metadata cleanup. You will learn best practices for server and
role placement and how to take a proactive approach to backup and disaster recovery. You will gain a detailed insight in to the issues surrounding authoritative restore of
user and groups and how to take a systematic approach to recovering from a series of incidents. Scenarios range from the loss of a single domain controller through to a catastrophic forest failure.
Throughout the seminar demonstrations will illustrate and augment the topics.
Who should attend?
Anyone who needs a detailed technical insight into maintaining and restoring
the Active Directory® database and infrastructure, including: Windows 2000
system consultants, architects, administrators, and troubleshooters.
The seminar does not cover Active Directory® design concepts, although the
knowledge gained will certainly help in making informed design decisions.
Prerequisites
The seminar provides real technical detail and assumes a working knowledge of
Active Directory® concepts such as forests, domains, sites, replication, domain
controllers, organizational units and group policy.
The seminar is not suitable for personnel engaged in basic day-to-day
administrative tasks.
